  • 🇵🇹✈️Starting September 23, 2026, Portugal’s new law prohibits clothing intended to conceal or obstruct the face in public spaces, including public streets and places open to the public.

  • The rule is broader than religious clothing specifically: the legal text applies generally to clothing that conceals the face. It also extends to events, sporting activities and demonstrations.

  • There are several exceptions, including face coverings for health, work, artistic, entertainment, security or weather-related reasons, as well as on aircraft, in diplomatic or consular premises, and in places of worship or other sacred spaces.

  • Travellers should also know there are penalties: violations can carry fines ranging from €150 to €3,000, depending on whether the offence is considered negligent or intentional.

  • For Saudi travellers specifically, the practical takeaway is to understand the new rules before visiting Portugal, particularly for anyone who normally wears a full-face covering such as a

💡 Summary:

Portugal’s new public face-covering law takes effect on September 23, meaning travellers will need to keep their faces visible in most public spaces unless one of the law’s listed exceptions applies. For Saudis heading to Lisbon, Porto, the Algarve or elsewhere in Portugal, it’s an important new local rule to know before travelling.

  • ✈️🇸🇦 King Khalid International Airport experienced significant delays and cancellations on Saturday, September 19, with Flightradar24 temporarily showing its highest disruption level.

  • Flight-tracking data later showed arrivals and departures gradually resuming, after operations were reportedly interrupted for around two hours.

  • By Sunday, Flightradar24 was showing a low disruption level, with flights continuing to arrive and depart from Riyadh.

  • One aviation report says the airport handled 745 flights over a 24-hour period — 361 arrivals and 384 departures — and around 100,000 passengers. However, those specific figures come from an aviation platform rather than an official airport statement, so they’re best presented as reported figures.

  • Some flights are still experiencing delays or cancellations, meaning passengers should check directly with their airline before heading to the airport.

💡 Summary:

After significant disruption on Saturday which created some closure rumours, King Khalid International Airport is operational and flights are continuing to move through Riyadh. Current flight-tracking data shows conditions have eased considerably, although individual flights may still be affected — so checking your specific flight remains the safest move

  • 💨 Saudi Traffic regulations classify driving a vehicle that causes environmental pollution on public roads as a traffic violation.

  • The fine ranges from SAR 500 to SAR 900, so excessive or polluting vehicle emissions could end up costing drivers more than expected.

  • The rule is about environmental pollution caused by the vehicle, rather than simply seeing a small amount of normal exhaust from a car.

  • For drivers, it’s another reason to pay attention to warning signs like unusual or excessive exhaust smoke and get potential mechanical problems checked rather than ignoring them.

  • The regulation ultimately encourages drivers to keep their vehicles properly maintained while reducing pollution on Saudi roads.

💡 Summary:

A smoky exhaust could be more than just a sign your car needs a trip to the mechanic. Driving a vehicle that causes environmental pollution on Saudi public roads can result in a SAR 500–900 fine, making proper vehicle maintenance important for both your wallet and the roads.
