Riyadh’s calendar is filling up, and even the commute has something new coming 🚝 From Riyadh Season’s latest additions to KAFD’s driverless plans, there’s plenty to catch up on. First, we pause to remember Sultan Al-Qahtani and share Saudi’s message of solidarity with Jordan 🇸🇦🇯🇴

A father of six, Sultan Al-Qahtani helped colleagues fight a fire at King Fahd International Airport in Dammambefore later becoming unwell and passing away in hospital.

  • 🕊️ His father said Sultan helped tackle the flames with extinguishers, fearing they could reach an aircraft and its passengers.

  • 👨‍👧‍👦 He leaves behind his wife, two sons and four daughters. His family remembers his courage, warmth and generosity.

  • 🏥 According to his father, Sultan experienced chest pain after returning to his office and was subsequently taken to hospital.

  • GACA’s October 22 statement confirmed two deaths and eight injuries following the attack, and announced that operations had resumed.

Sultan’s family is remembering a man who acted out of concern for others. May Allah have mercy on him and grant his loved ones strength and patience.

Riyadh Season 2026 kicked off on October 21, bringing new attractions, international sport and live entertainment to the capital.

  • 🌍 Portugal, Yemen, Uzbekistan and the Netherlands are joining Boulevard World, adding more cultural experiences and food to the mix.

  • 🥊 The programme includes international events across boxing, UFC, WWE and tennis.

  • 🎭 Boulevard City’s lineup includes concerts, comedy, theatre and interactive attractions.

  • 🌿 Wonder Garden, The Groves, Riyadh Zoo, Al Suwaidi Park and AlDirah Winter are also part of the programme.

LOVIN COMMUNITY

A 3.6-kilometre driverless monorail is taking shape at King Abdullah Financial District, with public opening planned for 2027.

  • 📍 Six trains will serve six stations, connecting offices, shopping and leisure destinations along an elevated circular route.

  • 🚇 The system will link with Riyadh Metro, offering another way to get around KAFD after arriving.

  • 👥 It is designed to accommodate up to 3,500 passengers an hour at peak times.

  • 🏗️ Construction milestones include the installation of a steel guideway beam across

    Al-Thumama Road.

  • 🗓️ When can passengers ride? Trial operations are planned for early 2027, ahead of a public opening before year-end. An exact opening date has not been announced.
